AM Drop Off Procedures - All car riders are to be dropped off at Circle Drive. Parents who need to escort their students are to park in marked spots in the parking lot between the school and central office or in the parking lot behind central office and escort their students through the parking lot. No child should be in the parking lot unattended. Parents need a RED PASS TO ENTER THE BUILDING between 8:05 and 8:25 a.m. All walkers should enter through front doors using crosswalks manned by crossing guards.

PM Pick Up Procedures - All car riders are to be picked up at Circle Drive. Parents should remain in their vehicle and follow the Circle Drive traffic and pick up their children as they pull up to SES staff members. No students should be in the parking lot. All walkers should exit through the front doors using crosswalks that are manned by crossing guards.

Visitor Policy

All visitors and volunteers must use the front door to be admitted to the building, sign in at the office, show identification and wear a visitor’s badge.
Classrooms will not be interrupted for messages until 2:30 p.m. Office staff will take messages and deliver them to the classrooms.  If a conversation with a classroom teacher is needed - we ask that you schedule an appointment.

Parents or guardians may no longer pick up their students at their classrooms.  Any parent or guardian wanting to volunteer in a classroom must get prior approval from the classroom teacher and administration.  All volunteers must have a criminal background check done through the office. These procedures are also in place for field trips.

We appreciate the support of our parents and community as we strive to keep our students safe!

Spencer Elementary is an "A" School!

Spencer Elementary has rated an "A" in the 2012 State of Indiana PL 221 ratings by the Indiana Department of Education. Congratulations goes out to all of the staff, students, parents and community members of the Wildcat family! Hard work, high expectations, creative programming and diligence has led SES to go from a D in 2010 to and A in 2012. To access our report card go to http://compass.doe.in.gov/ and enter Spencer Elementary.

Attendance Policy
It is important that our students are given every opportunity for academic success.  For this reason, we encourage students to arrive on time - prepared and ready to learn.  Our attendance goal is always 100%!  There are many incentives for all Wildcats who meet this goal personally and for the school as a whole.  With great attendance also comes higher achievement.  All support and help from parents and/or guardians is appreciated as the Wildcat family works hard in striving for perfect attendance.  Students who miss more than one day need to have a doctor's excuse to ensure an excused absence.
    Latchkey Program
Spencer Elementary has a before and afterschool program for all students kindergarten through sixth grade. Before school hours are from 6:30 a.m. to 8:05 a.m. After school hours are from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The program is overseen by school staff and is $1.50 per hour. Anyone interested can register at the front office.

Safety Preparedness

SES has an emergency preparedness plan that was created in concert with the Spencer-Owen School District Safety Team. SES constantly updates the plan, meets with the other district safety team members and evaluates safety drills on a regular basis. The students and staff of SES do an excellent job knowing their jobs and performing them during drills. In case of a lock down or questions about an emergency please call the school office at 829-2253.

A Big Thank You to our wonderful PTO officers for planting flowers around our sign for the beginning of school.  Our PTO also provided SES spirit shirts and goodies to welcome back staff members!

As the principal of Spencer Elementary, I am always looking for ways that our staff, parents, and community can work together for the safety and academic success of all of our students.  We have a dedicated and caring staff - working hard to provide each child with a quality education.  Please do not hesitate to contact  us with questions and suggestions.
